LCSW Clinical Social Work Supervisor, Master Social Work-LMSW
Tammy Brown, LCSW, CGP
I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. I
began my career in mental health at Seton Shoal Creek Hospital where I worked with adults,
adolescents, children, and families giving me a solid background in mental illness and crisis
management. I transitioned to private practice in 2001 working with mood disorders and
personality disorders offering DBT skills groups, adolescent and adult process groups, and
individual therapy. Over the years my practice has shifted to a focus on mood disorders, anxiety,
and relationship issues.
A major focus of my practice has always been group therapy. I am a Certified Group
Psychotherapist and have lead psychotherapy groups throughout my career including process
groups for adolescents and adults, Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills groups, and mindfulness/
skills/creativity-based groups for women with bipolar disorder and depression.
My practice model is psychodynamic. I draw from modern analysis, attachment theory, systems,
and interpersonal neurobiology. I believe that they key to good psychotherapy is paying close
attention to our clients and our own experience with them in the moment.
My supervision model is similar to my practice model. I work with supervisees to expand their
ability to be with clients and themselves more fully and integrate knowledge and skills with use
of self. My style is supportive and non-judgmental but direct.
I participate in regular consultation and training for my psychotherapy and supervision practice,
and will as long as I am a clinician. I believe that ongoing professional consultation makes it
possible for me to maintain excellence in my work, and a love and energy for my work that I
could not sustain without peer and consultant support.
