Clinical Social Work-Therapist
I work with adults and adolescents age 16 and up who are facing obstacles in their relationships, work, and/or education. These obstacles may be feeling stuck; general unhappiness or high anxiety; anger; little motivation; confusion; illness; and/or difficulty adjusting after a disappointment, failure, or loss. Through my experience and training, I understand that issues can arise from stressful life experiences; less than optimal self-concept; not utilizing emotions effectively; and/or difficulties in decision making and communication. My approach to therapy is informed by psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Each therapy is individualized and culturally sensitive.
To address these concerns, I work with individuals to improve self-awareness, coping skills, management of thoughts and feelings, and communication skills. I also strive to utilize strengths, creativity, and personal resources to improve overall satisfaction, resilience, and well-being. I offer ancillary family and couple sessions as needed.
Areas of expertise: Issues related to family building (infertility; miscarriage; first pregnancies; postpartum depression; single parents by choice; egg/sperm donor recipiency); Adoption; Late adolescence and young adults; Young adults with significant medical illness; Relationship counseling for family members of individuals with a severe mental illness and/or ADD/ADHD.
